The Project, titled “City of Brenham Burleson Road Culvert Replacement”, is a roadway bridge located at the intersection of Burleson Street crossing over an Unnamed Tributary to Little Sandy Creek In Washington County, Texas.

The 38’ wide bridge construction project was designed to replace a 21ft wide Low Water Crossing Roadway with Dual 72” Culverts that had suffered consecutive 100YR+ flooding blowout failures in April 2016 (Tax Day Flood) and June 2016.

The Project included a 24ft wide Curved Roadway crossing a 50’ Bridge Span over an Unnamed Tributary to Little Sandy Creek skewed to the roadway.

Bridge elements include Skewed 50’ Slab Beams on Concrete Drilled Shafts, 54” Tall Concrete abutments, an 8”concrete deck, and a 13” thick concrete approach slab.

The Bridge’s concrete rail transitions to guardrails for the raised roadway, while utilizing a vertical curve to place it above the 100-YR flood design event.

The Unnamed Tributary Crossing necessitated approximately 125 linear feet of channel improvements including 104 cubic yards of concrete sloped paving and 78 CY of Rip Rap.

Appurtenances included 2-inch and 8-inch waterline utilities, secondary 36” Culverts and a 1,097 S.Y. raised roadway replacement including 121 tons of HMAC and 626 tons of Black Base.

Construction costs were just over $1M in 2019.
