Ardurra completed this arterial and intersection reconstruction design to widen and improve Baseline Road to a six-lane major arterial with raised center median. Corridor improvements included 0.5 miles of new storm drain collection and conveyance systems, reconfiguring Baseline/Lindsay intersection, new traffic signals, new streetlights, new waterline and water mains, and SRP irrigation relocations. Implementing innovative approaches during design allowed the contractor to complete this project three weeks ahead of schedule and saved the project approximately $750,000 of storm drain, traffic signal, and drainage easement costs. This project utilized Cold-In Place Recycling (CIR) process which reuses materials and eliminates the need for removal, hauling, storage, and waste of millings, providing an environmentally sustainable solution. CIR provided a cost savings of around 25% and, because of the lack of necessity to haul old materials and haul in new materials, we reduced the schedule by 25 days, eliminating the need for traffic control and reducing impacts to local traffic and economies.
