Osceola County, Florida

Ardurra is leading a comprehensive Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study to widen Florida’s Turnpike from north of SR 60 to south of Clay Whaley Road, a critical 45.5-mile corridor in Osceola County. This study focuses on addressing current and future travel demands, enhancing safety, and resolving roadway deficiencies. The project includes evaluating multiple alternatives for widening the existing four-lane roadway to six and eight lanes, reconfiguring or replacing bridges, and identifying opportunities for new interchange locations to improve connectivity and emergency response.

The study emphasizes a sustainable approach by integrating wildlife enhancements and protecting the area’s natural habitat, ensuring minimal environmental impact. The Ardurra team is prioritizing public involvement through engagement with local communities, businesses, and key stakeholders. Collaboration with agencies such as the South Florida and St. Johns River Water Management Districts, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and Osceola County ensures the project aligns with regional needs and environmental stewardship goals.

Osceola County’s rapid growth and its mix of urban expansion in the north and large generational lands in the south present unique challenges. Ardurra’s strategies include proposing non-typical construction methods to reduce costs and timelines, designing interchange configurations that support multimodal access, and future-proofing rural segments to accommodate long-term improvements. The project also explores repurposing surplus land for truck parking, electric vehicle charging, and emergency staging areas to enhance corridor functionality and efficiency.

As part of a 10-year contract, this PD&E Study sets the foundation for future phases, including design-build procurement, utility planning, and further environmental evaluations. This effort reflects Ardurra’s commitment to balancing the region’s growth with sustainable, forward-thinking infrastructure solutions.
