I-10 Corridor Study Safety Analysis - New Mexico to Lousiana

We worked as a sub-consultant to HNTB on this corridor study that included analyzing current and future traffic and safety conditions along I-10 from the New Mexico to Louisiana border in Texas. The I-10 Corridor Study examined currently planned transportation initiatives, provided an analysis of additional needs to improve safety, connectivity, and mobility along I-10, and identified short-, mid-, and long-term improvements to address the comprehensive needs of the corridor.

The I-10 Corridor Study identified four area types (rural, transition, urban, and dense urban) to conduct a more detailed assessment of capacity and performance. Different performance criteria were considered to address unique characteristics as needed.

Some of the KEY ASPECTS of this corridor are:

• Analyzed +/-1,000 miles of I-10 from NM to LA border
• I-10 in Texas has more than 30 major interchanges   
• I-10 Texas passes through three major cities (El Paso, San Antonio, and Houston)
• Some areas along I-10 are experiencing significant growth adding to
  the unpredictability of the analysis
• Variations in population, nature of jobs, traffic composition added to the complexity
• Multiple data sources utilized to create various shapefiles/network files in unique ways for segmentation to match each other in space and time
