Pullman, Washington
The north urban growth area (UGA) of Pullman, WA is developing rapidly with additional residential and commercial land use growth expected. SR27 runs through this area, providing access between Pullman and several farming communities, also serving as a US-95 alternative route. Albion Road intersects SR27 to provide access to the UGA.
Previously a two-way stop, the Albion Drive and SR27 intersection required an upgrade to address the safety and capacity issues forecast with development. Ardurra staff worked with WSDOT, City of Pullman engineers, and private interests to advance a single-lane roundabout.
Ardurra’s team of transportation planners prepared an intersection control evaluation (ICE), leading to the conclusion of a roundabout for capacity with speed reduction chicanes to provide for safety through year 2040. Our team prepared an intersection plan for approval and design documentation to guide geometric, pavement, and drainage engineering.
Ardurra then developed plans, resulting in the preparation of a PS&E package for bid in fall of 2021. Our team finally supported the construction documentation process through summer of 2022, with Pullman’s first roundabout being opened for public use in August.
