Chattanooga, TN
The South Chickamauga Creek Interceptor Rehabilitation project in Chattanooga, initiated under a consent decree with the EPA, State of Tennessee, and the Tennessee Clean Water Network, exemplifies engineering innovation. The project focused on reducing sewer overflows by rehabilitating 9,250 feet of 72- and 84-inch concrete pipes from the 1970s, using Cured-In-Place Pipe (CIPP) technology for a long-term solution.
Key challenges included bypass routing to handle 42,000 gpm through difficult terrain, including crossing railways and a busy road. Environmental and logistical issues required careful coordination with stakeholders to minimize impacts on local waterways.
This project not only addressed critical infrastructure needs but also showcased how innovative engineering and collaboration can overcome complex challenges, ensuring public health, environmental protection, and Chattanooga’s future growth.
This project won a 2024 American Council of Engineering Companies (TN) Honor Award.
