Our aviation team assisted Southwest Wyoming Regional Airport in Rock Springs, Wyoming with design, bidding, and construction administration of new Single Engine Airtanker (SEAT) base for the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). The project consisted of the design and construction of a new concrete washdown pad, SEAT base parking, secondary containment for retardant tanks/mixing, trench drain for drainage and water/retardant supply, evaporation pond, storm drain system, and access road.

The SEAT Base will allow the BLM to combat wildfires in Southwest Wyoming, Northwest Colorado, and Northeast Utah. Along with this, one of the primary goals of the new base was to design and operate a base that meets the most current environmental regulations, so we had to facilitate superior coordination between the BLM’s National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) and Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) to ensure that the needs and function of the base met proper environmental regulations. This was one of the first facilities receiving this type of funding from NIFC. Our team played a vital role in helping the Owner navigate the intricacies of two very important government agencies while ensuring the design was completed on time, met the needs of the BLM, DEQ, and Owner, and to bid and construct the facility before the upcoming fire season. During construction, our team held paramount the sharing of information and communication to the BLM to ensure all parties were informed and up to date on construction activities.
