Ardurra provided predesign, survey, final design, and construction phase services for this federally funded safety improvements project to widen and improve the north and south sides of Thomas Road from Indian Bend Wash Bridge to 81st Place including the Thomas/Hayden intersection. Predesign included a PA Report to determine the preferred intersection layout and configuration with respect to right-of-way, utilities, and roadway widening. We determined the “best fit,” thus avoiding several transmission power poles, minimizing right-of-way takes, limiting impact to Salt River Project (SRP) Water facilities, and reducing the paving requirements originally anticipated. Final design components included left and right turn lanes, transit bays, traffic signals, streetlights, driveways, sidewalks, ADA upgrades, utility relocations/adjustments, ROW delineation, environmental coordination, and storm drainage. This project included extensive utility coordination and relocation services for all major utility providers. Our innovative geometric design substantially reduced SRP Water facility relocations, avoided APS transmission structures, and incorporated unique access control elements.
