City of Brenham Burleson Road Culvert Replacement

Brenham, TX

Ardurra delivered bridge replacement and roadway reconstruction for the City of Brenham following consecutive 100-year flooding failures that destroyed existing infrastructure at Burleson Road crossing over an Unnamed Tributary to Little Sandy Creek. The dual 72-inch culverts and 21-foot wide low water crossing suffered catastrophic blowout failures during the April 2016 Tax Day Flood and June 2016 flooding events, necessitating complete infrastructure replacement.

The $1+ million project replaced failed infrastructure with a robust 38-foot wide bridge featuring a 24-foot wide curved roadway spanning 50 feet over the tributary. Advanced engineering design incorporated skewed positioning to accommodate roadway alignment while ensuring flood resilience through elevation above the 100-year flood design event.

Key Project Highlights:

  • Replaced flood-damaged infrastructure following consecutive 100-year flooding failures in 2016

  • Constructed a 50-foot span bridge with skewed slab beams on concrete drilled shafts and 54-inch concrete abutments

  • Designed flood-resilient elevation using vertical curve placement above the 100-year flood design event

  • Completed 125 LF channel improvements, including 104 CY concrete sloped paving and 78 CY rip rap installation

  • Integrated utility infrastructure, including 2-inch and 8-inch waterlines with secondary 36-inch culverts

  • Delivered 1,097 SY raised roadway replacement with 121 tons HMAC and 626 tons of black base materials

  • Provided complete design services from bridge elements through concrete rail transitions and guardrail systems

The project transformed vulnerable low-water-crossing infrastructure into flood-resilient transportation infrastructure, ensuring reliable community access during extreme weather events while protecting against future flood damage.
