I-75 at Fruitville Road Interchange
Sarasota, Florida
This project enhances a critical segment of I-75, spanning from north of the Bee Ridge Road (SR 758) interchange to north of the Fruitville Road (SR 780) interchange. The interstate will be widened and reconstructed to meet the 10-lane ultimate typical section defined in the PD&E study. The design includes six general-use lanes, with three in each direction, arranged in their ultimate configuration. A 164-foot buffer between inside lanes allows for future express lanes, while a 64-foot multimodal corridor is incorporated to support additional transportation options.
The project includes the reconfiguration of the existing partial cloverleaf interchange at I-75 and Fruitville Road into a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI), improving traffic flow and safety. Auxiliary lanes will be added to connect the I-75/SR 758 interchange ramps to the south, while the existing auxiliary lanes leading to the University Parkway interchange to the north will remain intact. Emergency stopping sites will be included on both the northbound and southbound I-75 off-ramps. Additionally, Fruitville Road will be widened to include auxiliary lanes, replacing the current flush shoulders with curb and gutter from Honore Avenue to east of Lakewood Ranch Blvd.
This comprehensive upgrade will not only increase traffic capacity and improve flow but also prepare the corridor for future multimodal and express lane enhancements, ensuring a safer and more efficient roadway for all users.
