Park Lane Pedestrian Corridor Enhancements

Kirkland, WA

Revitalizing Kirkland's downtown with a pedestrian-focused public plaza

Ardurra redesigned a section of Kirkland's downtown business district into a pedestrian-focused plaza, improving walkability, supporting local economic activity, and creating a flexible gathering space for community events. The project moved on an accelerated schedule to preserve critical federal and state funding.

Key Highlights:

  • Converted a two-way street into a pedestrian-level corridor that can be fully closed to traffic for events and community use

  • Installed permeable pavers and bioretention cells to manage stormwater on-site and reduce runoff

  • Specified a modular suspended pavement system beneath all pedestrian walkways to support tree health and long-term pavement performance

  • Replaced a 1955-era water main and upgraded aging utilities as part of the streetscape reconstruction

  • Maintained downtown business access throughout construction through close coordination with local business owners

The completed plaza delivers a modern, resilient streetscape for Kirkland's downtown, blending necessary infrastructure upgrades with community-centered placemaking to support local businesses and activate public space for years to come.
