Safe Streets for Vacaville

Vacaville, CA

Safer Streets, Stronger Connections, Funded and Ready to Build

Ardurra assisted the City of Vacaville in preparing a winning proposal to the U.S. Department of Transportation for the Fiscal Year 2024 Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Program. The city was awarded $11 million to improve roadway safety and multimodal access along two high-injury corridors. This project was one of 11 awards in California this round and received the 4th highest dollar amount in the state.

The implementation phase of the project will improve connectivity across I-505 and enhance safety along these corridors with roundabouts, new protective backplates, and multimodal improvements. Supplemental planning will incorporate updates to the City’s ADA Transition Plan, a bicycle and pedestrian safety demonstration project along a high-collision corridor, and an educational campaign to raise awareness about speeding and vulnerable roadway users.

The Ardurra funding team played a critical role in securing this award by guiding the city through the grant development process. Their support included strategic planning, eligibility analysis, and crafting a compelling application aligned with federal safety priorities. Ardurra’s expertise in multimodal planning and data-driven safety analysis helped shape a competitive application that emphasized alignment with federal initiatives, community connectivity, and measurable impact. Their coordination across city departments and stakeholders ensured that all supporting components were well-integrated into the final proposal.

The SS4A grant will provide project funding to:

  • Implement the Vaca Valley/I-505 Multimodal Improvements Project that enhances connectivity, traffic operations, and safety across I-505.

  • Build dedicated active transportation facilities with a separated bicycle and pedestrian path over the interstate.

  • Advance accessibility goals by updating the City’s ADA Transition Plan.

  • Test multimodal safety solutions through a demonstration project along a high-collision corridor.

  • Promote community-wide traffic safety through an educational campaign.
