Ardurra provided professional engineering services for the expansion of the Shady Hills Sub regional WWTP from 2 mgd to 14 mgd. This project included the complete replacement of the existing headworks with a new headworks with two MGD mechanical screens and a grit removal system; two recycle mixing chambers with flow splitter; four anoxic basins; three aeration basins with DO control; two internal recycle pump stations for nitrate removal; four 80-foot clarifiers; five deep bed mono-media filters; conversion of the existing high service pump station to a filter washwater pump station; conversion of the existing chlorine contact chamber and effluent transfer pump station to a filter washwater mud well; two new chlorine contact chambers with sodium hypochlorite storage and feed system; 32 mgd effluent transfer pump station; one 5 MG ground storage tank; 24 mgd high service reclaimed water pump station; 80,000 gpd septage/grease receiving station with screens, storage and vacuum filters; two 1 MG sludge storage tanks with scale house; 21 MG lined reject water storage pond; and, a new Administration Building.

During the design phase, Ardurra maintained contact with 12 large construction contractors, continually updating them on the status of the design, the permitting and anticipated bid dates and times.  As a result, six (6) competitive bids were received for this $70M project.  The two low bids were within 0.75% of each other.  During construction, Ardurra administered an Owner Direct Purchase program that the City saved over $600,000 in state sales tax on the $11M of equipment procured by the Contractor.

Ardurra also provided startup, testing and certification services.  Ardurra administered a commissioning log during construction that monitored all calibrations, testing, certifications, spares parts, O&M manuals, Owner training, start-ups and other requirements of the construction contract.

The entire project was constructed while keeping the existing facility on line with no interruptions to operations.
