Spokane International Airport, Airport Drive Inbound

Spokane, WA

Ardurra prepared a landscape construction package for a 1.5 mile roadway extension of Airport Drive Inbound at the Spokane International Airport. This roadway improvement project was the first of three phases set to reroute arriving airport vehicular traffic to a planned new terminal. Our landscape architects and  civil  engineers worked diligently side by side to integrate the necessary stormwater management and airport-requested highly visible landscape plantings together within a 20’ landscape buffer. The solution was to create an undulating landscape of rises and valleys that could seamlessly incorporate both. Ardurra designed swaths of colorful, drought tolerant plant material to rise above the roadway atop rolling berms while stormwater is carried throughout in a mixture of underground pipes and sodded, open channels creating a moving, stimulating environment for passengers at both high and low speeds.
