Goldenrod Road Pedestrian Crossing Study
Orlando, FL
Safer Crossings, Stronger Community Connections
This project was conducted to evaluate the need for additional pedestrian crossing opportunities across Goldenrod Road for the one-mile stretch from Bates Road to University Boulevard in response to citizens' requests. This study included traffic counts, pedestrian crossing counts, and LYNX ridership data collection and analysis, a pedestrian gap study, preparation of a condition diagram, crash summaries, collision diagrams, and evaluation of warrants for a Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon (PHB). Benefit/cost and net present value (NPV) analysis were conducted, and recommended improvement concepts were prepared for short-term maintenance, mid-term, and ultimate improvement. The recommended mid-term improvements included implementing a leading pedestrian interval (LPI) with a “No Turn on Red” blank-out sign at the Bates Road intersection. The recommended ultimate improvement was for the installation of a mid-block crosswalk with a Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon. Design concepts were prepared for interim and ultimate improvements. This was a Task Work Order (TWO) under a Districtwide Traffic Safety Studies & Highway Design Contract.
