Superior Avenue Pedestrian/Bicycle Bridge and Parking Lot

Seattle, WA

Ardurra served as the Construction Manager and Inspector for this $15.4 million project, ensuring the 210-foot bridge and surrounding amenities met rigorous Greenbook and Caltrans standards. The bridge includes eco-friendly features such as bioswales, low-wattage lighting, and improved landscaping, supporting sustainable travel and reducing the area’s environmental impact. Additional project highlights include a 129-space parking lot, expanded green space, stormwater drainage improvements, and convenient amenities like a drop-off area, a bicycle fix-it station, and a drinking fountain.

This project significantly enhances community quality of life by providing a safe, dedicated route for pedestrians and cyclists at Superior Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway. The expanded parking lot increases access to Sunset Ridge Park and nearby beaches, encouraging outdoor recreation and active transportation. Sustainability measures include bioswales for improved water quality, low-wattage lighting, and organic LEDs that reduce energy consumption while enhancing safety and aesthetics. The project’s design integrates seamlessly with the coastal environment, using a segmental retaining wall that minimizes environmental impact. The bridge’s clear span design not only boosts safety but also improves visibility, creating a safer experience for all users. Community-focused outreach ensured alignment with local needs, while construction innovations minimized disruption and preserved the natural landscape. Together, these elements foster a healthier, safer, and more connected community, encouraging residents to engage in outdoor activities and sustainable travel.
