Stream Systems

Restore the Stream.
Protect What's Around It.
Streams take a beating. Development, aging infrastructure, and poor drainage turn healthy channels into eroding gullies that undermine roads, wash out banks, and destroy habitat.
We restore them. Our designs stabilize channels using natural patterns and native vegetation rather than concrete and rip-rap. Through careful hydraulic and geomorphic analysis, we create solutions that slow erosion, reconnect streams to their floodplains, and rebuild habitat for fish and wildlife.
Whether we're working in a tight urban corridor or restoring miles of degraded channel for a mitigation bank, the goal is the same: a stable stream that meets regulatory requirements, protects nearby infrastructure, and costs less to maintain over time.
- Stream assessment and prioritization
- Natural channel design and stabilization
- Floodplain reconnection and enhancement
- Riparian buffer restoration and native planting
- In-stream habitat improvement structures
- Bank stabilization using bioengineering techniques
- Mitigation planning and crediting support
- Regulatory permitting and compliance assistance
We start with the stream itself. Field assessments and hydraulic modeling tell us how it's failing and why. Then we design a solution that fixes the problem without creating new ones downstream.
That means working through the details: permit requirements, property constraints, infrastructure conflicts. We know what regulators need to see and how to get projects approved without endless revisions.
The streams we restore stay fixed. They handle floods, support aquatic life, and require minimal maintenance because they're designed around how water actually moves through the landscape.
- Rosgen Level I–IV natural channel design
- Hydraulic and geomorphic analysis
- HEC-RAS modeling and No-Rise certifications
- Bioengineered bank stabilization (soil lifts, root wads, log toes)
- In-stream grade control structures (cross-vanes, J-hooks)
- Wetland and riparian restoration design
- Functional uplift assessment and crediting protocols
Turning Water Challenges Into Lasting Solutions
Access to safe drinking water is the cornerstone of a thriving community. At Ardurra, we combine technical excellence with innovative strategies to help clients navigate the complexities of water supply and treatment: from aging infrastructure and emerging contaminants (including PFAS and microplastic), lead and copper rules to climate change and evolving regulations. With proven expertise and a forward-thinking approach, we transform challenges into resilient, sustainable solutions that protect public health, foster economic prosperity, and ensure reliable water supplies for generations to come.
