Alligator Creek Phase 3 Ecosystem Restoration Project

 Punta Gorda, FL

Ardurra delivered comprehensive wetland restoration and habitat enhancement through the Southwest Florida Water Management District's Surface Water Improvement and Management (SWIM) Program. The project restored historically drained palustrine wetlands while creating new low-saline wetlands and freshwater marsh habitats to support regional ecosystem recovery.

The scope included improving upland habitats through the systematic removal of invasive Brazilian pepper and other non-native species, restoring native plant communities, and establishing wildlife corridors. Ardurra's ecological expertise ensured effective species management and habitat connectivity throughout the restoration area.

The project enhances water quality in critical areas by improving stormwater flow from offsite basins, creating natural filtration systems that improve downstream water conditions. This integrated approach addresses both habitat restoration and stormwater management objectives, delivering multiple environmental benefits to the community.

Funded and implemented through SWIM Program initiatives, the project demonstrates successful collaboration between engineering expertise and environmental stewardship, creating sustainable wetland systems that support native wildlife while providing natural stormwater treatment infrastructure for the region.
