Bellaire Boulevard Safety Study and Reconstruction

Harris County, TX

Ardurra delivered traffic safety analysis and design services for Bellaire Boulevard reconstruction, successfully addressing critical safety concerns along the corridor from Tres Lagunas to Marchiana. The team conducted detailed accident data analysis, field investigations, and operational assessments to identify safety, mobility, and visibility issues affecting this high-traffic arterial.

Following extensive coordination with Harris County and TxDOT, Ardurra developed three improvement options with targeted recommendations to reduce accidents and mitigate existing problem conditions. The selected solution implemented strategic access management techniques to control driveway traffic serving adjacent businesses while optimizing geometric configurations for through lanes, left turns, and median openings to handle traffic movements safely.

Capacity and accident analyses extended beyond the primary study area to include Bellaire Boulevard sections east and west of SH 6, ensuring comprehensive safety and level-of-service improvements throughout the corridor. The team prepared complete design documentation including paving and drainage plans, signing and pavement marking plans, traffic signal plans, traffic control plans, and stormwater management documents.

The $2.2 million reconstruction project qualified for CMAQ funding through Category 5 TxDOT standards compliance, enabling construction under TxDOT oversight. Ardurra's design approach successfully balanced federal funding requirements with local safety objectives, delivering measurable improvements in traffic operations and accident reduction along this critical Harris County arterial.

The completed project demonstrates effective multi-agency coordination and innovative access management solutions that enhance both safety and mobility for the traveling public.
