0.75 MG prestressed tank and 1,600 GPM pump station for Redwood City

Ardurra delivered design and construction phase services for critical water infrastructure improvements, including a new 0.75-million-gallon circular prestressed concrete potable water tank and a 1,600 GPM pump station with extensive supporting infrastructure. The complex project addressed storage capacity needs while integrating advanced pumping systems that serve multiple pressure zones and meet operational requirements.

The strategic infrastructure development encompassed 1,100 linear feet of transmission main pipeline, 640 linear feet of 12-inch-diameter cement-mortar-lined and coated steel yard piping, and comprehensive site improvements, including access roads, drainage detention basin, electrical/SCADA/security systems, landscaping, and fencing enhancements.

Key Engineering Services:

  • Designed 0.75 MG circular prestressed concrete tank following a comprehensive siting evaluation and life-cycle cost analysis for alternative materials and configurations

  • Engineered a 1,600 GPM pump station with three 533 GPM vertical turbine pumps and variable frequency drives serving diverse operational requirements

  • Analyzed transmission main alignment with pipe materials evaluation for a 1,100 LF pipeline supporting system integration

  • Designed multi-pressure zone pumping accommodating operational, fire protection, and emergency interconnection requirements across three pressure zones

  • Developed 640 LF yard piping system using cement mortar-lined and coated steel construction, ensuring durability and water quality

  • Created a storm runoff detention basin, attenuating post-project runoff to match existing conditions and regulatory requirements

  • Integrated comprehensive site improvements, including access roads, electrical/SCADA/security systems, landscaping, and perimeter fencing

The water infrastructure expansion provides Redwood City with enhanced storage capacity and pumping flexibility while demonstrating strategic engineering analysis across tank design alternatives, pipeline alignment optimization, and multi-zone pressure management supporting diverse operational and emergency response requirements.
