Delivering lift station monitoring and analytics for 185 wastewater facilities across Fort Lauderdale's sewer collection system

Ardurra provided the City of Fort Lauderdale with a data-driven lift station monitoring and analytics solution as part of a broader wastewater system improvement program. This work focused on improving operational visibility and performance understanding for approximately 185 lift stations distributed across the city's sewer collection system.

The solution involved developing an integrated analytics and visualization framework that consolidates lift station operational data from multiple sources — including SCADA systems, GIS asset information, and field inspection records. The City's infrastructure data was also integrated with key environmental factors, specifically rainfall, groundwater levels, and tidal conditions, to provide a more complete understanding of external influences on system performance and inflow and infiltration (I&I) behavior.

All datasets were standardized and unified into a single analytical environment to enable consistent monitoring and comparison across the lift station network. Ardurra implemented structured data-processing workflows to clean, align, and harmonize data across different systems, addressing gaps and inconsistencies to ensure reliable analysis. Automated data pipelines were developed to support regular updates and near-real-time visibility into lift station and related environmental conditions. A data governance approach was applied to ensure consistency in asset definitions, data formatting, and validation rules across all integrated datasets.

Key Highlights:

  • Developed an integrated monitoring and analytics solution covering approximately 185 wastewater lift stations across the City of Fort Lauderdale's sewer collection system.

  • Unified SCADA, GIS, field inspection, and environmental datasets — including rainfall, groundwater, and tidal conditions — into a single analytics platform to support I&I assessment.

  • Implemented automated data pipelines and structured ETL workflows to ensure data quality, consistency, and near real-time system visibility.

  • Applied a data governance framework to standardize asset definitions and validation rules across all integrated data sources.

  • Enabled engineers and operators to evaluate lift station performance trends and environmental influences for proactive operational decision-making.

Ardurra delivered a robust, data-integrated monitoring solution that equips the City of Fort Lauderdale with the analytical tools needed to manage inflow and infiltration across a complex, 185-station lift station network. By consolidating previously siloed operational and environmental data into a unified platform, the project enables more precise performance evaluation and faster identification of system vulnerabilities. This work directly supports the City's broader wastewater system improvement program and long-term infrastructure resilience.
