Helotes Creek Linear Park Pedestrian Bridge

Helotes, TX

165-foot pedestrian bridge and 1.5-mile trail per TxDOT standards

Ardurra delivered engineering services for the City of Helotes' 1.5-mile trail project, providing complete design and construction support per TxDOT standards. The multi-disciplinary project encompassed surveying, structural design, drainage analysis, and utility coordination while addressing complex pedestrian connectivity and safety requirements throughout the corridor.

The team designed specialized structural foundations for an approximately 165-foot pre-engineered pedestrian bridge, featuring concrete abutments and supporting piers to ensure a safe crossing over existing infrastructure. Strategic coordination addressed utility conflicts discovered during construction, requiring innovative solutions for drilled shaft locations when subsurface utilities were encountered during subgrade exploration.

Key Project Highlights:

  • Designed a 1.5-mile trail system providing enhanced pedestrian connectivity and recreational access for the Helotes community

  • Engineered a 165-foot pedestrian bridge with concrete abutments and supporting piers meeting TxDOT structural standards

  • Conducted a comprehensive drainage analysis, ensuring proper stormwater management throughout the trail corridor

  • Developed a traffic control plan, maintaining vehicular safety during construction while protecting pedestrian access

  • Implemented stormwater pollution prevention plan protecting environmental resources during construction activities

  • Designed pedestrian traffic signal systems, enhancing safety at key crossing locations with appropriate pavement markings

  • Coordinated complex utility conflicts, providing construction solutions when subsurface utilities affected drilled shaft installations

The project enhanced community connectivity while demonstrating effective coordination between the design and construction phases. Strategic problem-solving during construction, including resolving utility conflicts, ensured project completion while maintaining TxDOT compliance and community safety standards throughout implementation.
