North Ohio Avenue Bridge Replacement

Atlantic City, NJ

Staged Bridge Replacement in an Active Residential Neighborhood

Ardurra provided construction management and construction inspection services for the staged demolition and replacement of the North Ohio Avenue Bridge over Venice Lagoon in Atlantic City, NJ. As the only vehicular and pedestrian route into the western portion of the Venice Park neighborhood, the project required continuous access throughout construction.

Key Highlights:

  • Staged construction sequencing maintained one open lane at all times, preserving access for residents, pedestrians, and a nearby school throughout the full replacement

  • New five-span bridge features reinforced concrete abutments on pipe pile foundations, concrete-filled pipe pile bents, prestressed concrete slab beams, reinforced concrete deck and sidewalk, parapet walls, and aluminum chain-link fencing

  • Approach roadway reconstruction included permanent steel sheet pile walls, drainage improvements, ADA-compliant curb ramps, new concrete curb and sidewalk, beam guide rail, bituminous pavement, utility relocations, landscaping, and updated signage and striping

  • Temporary traffic control signals and vibration monitoring protected neighborhood structures and managed single-lane traffic safely throughout the work zone

  • Flooding and erosion issues at all four abutment corners — caused by elevation differences with neighboring properties — were fully resolved as part of the project scope

The project was completed ahead of schedule, delivering a fully rebuilt bridge and improved approach roadway that enhances safety, accessibility, and long-term resilience for the Venice Park community.
