NW Extension Phase II CA&I

Phoenix, AZ

Bringing light rail to Phoenix's Metrocenter, on time.

Ardurra provided Construction Administration and Inspection (CA&I) services for the Northwest Extension Phase II of the Valley Metro Light Rail system in Phoenix, Arizona — a 1.6-mile expansion connecting the existing light rail alignment at 19th and Dunlap Avenues to the redeveloped Metrocenter area, supporting multimodal connectivity and economic revitalization across the region.

Key Highlights:

  • Extended light rail service to the historically underserved Metrocenter corridor, improving transit access for residents and spurring economic revitalization in a redeveloping commercial hub

  • Oversaw construction of the system's first elevated station and rail structure, a technically complex milestone requiring precise coordination across civil, structural, utility, and systems infrastructure

  • Ensured rigorous FTA compliance throughout construction, managing project documentation, materials testing protocols, safety standards, and RFI and submittal reviews to protect federal funding integrity

  • Coordinated daily field oversight across third-party utilities and adjacent property owners, minimizing community disruption while keeping a high-profile, multi-agency project on schedule

  • Recognized with multiple regional and national industry awards, including ACEC-AZ Engineering Excellence Honor Award (2024), AZAGC Build Arizona Award (2025), and NRC Large Project of the Year (2025)

Ardurra's CA&I work on the NW Extension Phase II demonstrates the team's ability to manage the complexities of federally funded, multi-agency transit infrastructure — delivering quality, compliance, and community-focused outcomes in a dynamic urban environment.
