Rotonda Water Reclamation Facility Headworks Improvements
Charlotte County, FL
Restoring Reliability at the Front Lines of Wastewater Treatment
Ardurra delivered engineering services to improve the headworks system at Charlotte County's Rotonda Water Reclamation Facility, which treats wastewater using membrane bioreactor technology and is rated for 2.0 MGD. The existing headworks included two 2.0-mm drum-style mechanical screens, grit cyclone pumps, flow control valves, and associated piping, all of which were experiencing significant maintenance and corrosion issues. The team conducted a condition assessment, identifying deficiencies and recommending improvements, then delivered design, permitting, and construction-phase services to rehabilitate or replace critical components, including mechanical screens, screenings discharge chutes, grit cyclone separators and classifiers, influent flow meter and valves, concrete and pipe coatings, and electrical and SCADA systems.
Key Highlights:
- Rehabilitated headworks system serving a 2.0 MGD MBR facility to address corrosion and maintenance challenges
- Replaced mechanical screens, grit cyclone equipment, flow meters, and valves to improve operational reliability
- Integrated electrical and SCADA improvements to optimize system performance and monitoring capabilities
The improvements enhanced the reliability and efficiency of Charlotte County's wastewater treatment operations while reducing maintenance requirements, extending facility service life, and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards.
