Making a Splash for Plainfield

Ardurra provided civil/site, structural, geotechnical, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design services, along with bid phase and construction administration support, for the Rushmore Recreational Complex Aquatic Improvements in Plainfield, NJ. The project replaced outdated pool facilities with a new competition-grade aquatic complex that fulfills the City's long-standing commitment to quality recreational infrastructure for all residents.

Key Highlights:

  • New six-lane competition pool with recreational area, speed slide, and 35-foot shade structures replaces a demolished main pool; a new 11,850 SF splash pad in an improved location replaces the former kiddie pool

  • Inclusive splash pad design accommodates children of all ages and abilities, featuring a UV treatment system for high-level water quality and safe operation

  • Regenerative filters installed for both the pool and splash pad reduce water consumption, energy use, and chemical inputs, lowering long-term operating costs

  • New aquatics building provides restrooms, locker rooms, and mechanical equipment space; site furnishings include nine round picnic tables, lounge chairs, umbrellas, and a bleacher system adjacent to the competition pool

  • Ardurra coordinated with the project architect to design a curved building form reflecting an aquatic theme, reinforcing the complex's identity as a destination facility

The Rushmore Aquatic Complex delivers a safe, welcoming, and sustainably operated recreational facility that serves Plainfield residents of all ages and abilities, fulfilling a city-wide promise with thoughtful design and engineering.
