Cost-effective diamond lanes using existing US 290 shoulder infrastructure
Ardurra conducted a traffic study evaluating the feasibility of utilizing existing US 290 shoulders for METRO Park & Ride buses serving Cypress Park & Ride, while developing innovative solutions that require minimal freeway modifications to accommodate diamond lanes in both directions. The study led to the cost-effective implementation of a diamond lane using existing shoulder infrastructure, while maintaining freeway operations and safety standards.
Following feasibility determination, METRO engaged Ardurra to provide construction documents for US 290 Diamond Lanes from west of Telge to east of N. Eldridge Parkway. The TxDOT-led project required extensive coordination between multiple agencies while ensuring compliance with TxDOT design standards throughout development and implementation phases.
