Wicked Weed Brewing – The Funkatorium + Cultura
Asheville, NC
MEP Systems for a Landmark South Slope Destination
Ardurra provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering across multiple phases of renovation and expansion for Wicked Weed Brewing's Funkatorium on Asheville's South Slope. The project involved the adaptive reuse of a 14,700 SF industrial building into a specialized sour beer production facility with integrated public hospitality spaces, evolving in stages to meet growing demand.
Key Highlights:
-
Phase 1 converted the industrial structure into a functional brewing and barrel-aging operation with a tasting room, retail area, kitchen, and office space, with MEP systems designed for the specific environmental demands of sour beer production
-
Temperature control, controlled ventilation, and process utility integration addressed the unique conditions required for barrel-aged fermentation
-
Subsequent phases added a covered patio and bocce court, significantly increasing seating capacity and year-round usability
-
Final phase repurposed underused production and storage areas into a full-service restaurant, art gallery, flexible event space with catering kitchen, biergarten, and mobile bar
-
Scalable, phased MEP systems supported both production continuity and expanding hospitality functions throughout each stage of growth
The Funkatorium's evolution from industrial building to high-traffic, multi-use venue reinforces the South Slope's emergence as a commercial and cultural destination, with Ardurra's engineering supporting each phase of that growth.
