Hospira CQ Laboratory And Office Building
Ardurra provided structural and civil design and construction administration services for the Hospira CQ laboratory and office building. The project was executed under a fast-track, design-build arrangement, which required close coordination with the owner, contractor, and various design disciplines. The three-story, 66,000 SF building includes 3,000 SF of mechanical space on the third floor, with an allowance for future document storage systems. The building features a large exterior brick spine that extends 12 feet above the roof, and continues through the welcome center and grand staircase. The front of the building supports a two-story, corrugated metal panel accented by the company logo.
The structural design utilized elevated concrete slabs on metal deck with both composite and non-composite steel framing. The building is laterally stabilized by braced frames strategically located within the building’s footprint. The building was clad with a combination of glass curtain wall and insulated metal panel systems. The project included design for a single-story, 3,000 SF building to house mechanical and electrical gear, as well as foundations and framing for cooling towers, with associated wall partitions to screen the equipment from view.
