I-4 Sand Lake Road DDI Interchange Improvements Design-Build

FDOT District 5, Orange County, Florida

As part of the I-4 Beyond the Ultimate (BTU) corridor plan, this project focuses on reconfiguring the I-4 and Sand Lake Road Interchange into a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) to improve traffic flow and safety. The project includes a direct connection from the westbound I-4 general-use lanes to Turkey Lake Road and involves reconstructing I-4 from west of Sand Lake Road to the I-4 Ultimate limits, incorporating barrier-separated express lanes and a buffered express lane on westbound I-4 between Sand Lake Road and Central Florida Parkway.

Significant improvements are being made along Sand Lake Road and Turkey Lake Road, including two bridge replacements, two new ramp bridges, and the widening of one bridge. The project also introduces a temporary DDI concept, providing early operational benefits by allowing most construction out of traffic and minimizing disruptions.

Ardurra, as part of the Lane/DRMP team, is the lead designer for the Temporary Traffic Control Plan and temporary drainage systems, ensuring efficient construction while prioritizing safety and mobility throughout the project.
