Life support for Asia's first river-themed wildlife park

Ardurra provided aquatic life support system design and engineering services for River Safari, Asia's first and only river-themed wildlife park featuring eight freshwater rivers of the world, including the Mississippi, Congo, Nile, Ganges, Murray, Mekong, Yangtze, and Amazon Rivers. The groundbreaking 12-hectare facility, part of Wildlife Reserves Singapore's award-winning portfolio, houses over 300 animal species, including endangered Giant Pandas and Mekong Giant Catfish, while featuring one of Asia's largest collections of freshwater aquatic animals.

The life support systems encompass approximately 4,500 cubic meters of total exhibit water volume with dedicated treatment systems for each major exhibit, preventing cross-contamination between species. Advanced water treatment technologies include coarse screening, drum filters, high-rate sand filtration, ozone, ultraviolet disinfection, chlorination, bio-filtration, and aeration systems, ensuring optimal animal health and visitor experience.

Key Life Support System Features:

  • Designed systems for Asia's largest freshwater collection featuring eight world rivers and 300+ animal species, including endangered Giant Pandas

  • Engineered dedicated treatment systems for each major exhibit, preventing cross-contamination while ensuring species-specific water quality requirements

  • Implemented advanced filtration technologies, including drum filters, reducing backwash frequency by 50% for manatee and otter exhibits

  • Integrated comprehensive water treatment controlling turbidity, bacteria, nitrates, phosphates, dissolved oxygen, and pH across diverse freshwater ecosystems

  • Developed water conservation and recycling systems, reducing demand on potable water and wastewater systems through multiple reuse cycles

  • Incorporated a future backwash recovery system, treating exhibit filter backwash for reuse, reducing discharge by an additional 50%

  • Provided construction support services, ensuring quality installation and system integration throughout facility development

The River Safari delivery establishes Singapore as a leader in freshwater conservation education while demonstrating innovative approaches to sustainable aquatic facility design. Advanced water treatment and recycling systems support the park's conservation mission while providing immersive educational experiences inspiring visitors to protect fragile freshwater ecosystems worldwide.
