Stevens County Floodplains Design

Stevens County, WA

The Stevens County Floodplains by Design Colville River Project is located on agricultural lands south of the city of Chewelah, WA and will create a secondary floodway terrace along a roughly 4,000 ft. section of the Colville River, remove dredge spoils, and stabilize/replant disturbed sites. The proposed "Pilot Project” site is within the Colville River’s historic floodplain and lies four feet or less above the river's current channel. To support the County during the Pilot Project’s permitting process, Ardurra’s geospatial team created a public website that provides background information and an interactive web map featuring a LiDAR-derived relative elevation model of the project area. The website also includes a section where local stakeholders are encouraged to submit comments on the Pilot Project or suggest future floodplain improvement projects in the valley. The comment form also allows users to link their comment to a pin on the web map. Finally, Ardurra provided the County with an internal dashboard to view, query, and export the public comments.
