Roosevelt Row Pedestrian Improvements

City of Phoenix,  Arizona

The Roosevelt Row project was one of the first “Complete Street” corridors in Phoenix creating a safe, non-congested urban experience. Ardurra completed final design to narrow the Roosevelt Street from Central Avenue to Fourth Street. The City’s “road diet” consisted of lane reductions to accommodate wider sidewalks, brighter street and pedestrian lighting, landscaping, irrigation, site furnishings, shade structures, wayfinding signs, and artistic enhancements. Our team prepared a Project Assessment (PA) Report, a Categorical Exclusion, and an Environmental Assessment Report. The design widened sidewalks from 5 feet ranging up to 11 to 19 feet, and added considerable space for outdoor restaurant seating and ample parking spaces. Sustainable elements incorporated into design included permeable pavers and grates, LED path lighting, and a solar-powered art structure. The Roosevelt Row improvements align with revitalization initiatives within the Phoenix Arts District and promote social interactions for local citizens and outside visitors — adding space for more award-winning restaurants, eateries, and shops and enhancing art ambience.
