METRO Bus Route 39 Before and After Travel Time Runs

Houston, Texas

Ardurra provided, as a subconsultant to Huitt-Zollars, Inc., Traffic Engineering Services with regard to the proposed Route #39 developed as part of the reimagining of METRO bus routes system. The proposed bus route would operate between Northwest Transit Center (NWTC) and Kirkwood Drive. The purpose of the study was to ensure that the proposed Bus Route 39 would not significantly impact existing traffic operation along IH-10 Frontage Road.

Ardurra provided a comparison study of “before” and “after” travel times during AM and PM peak periods before the bus line was implemented.

Services provided by Ardurra included:

  • Collecting existing travel time and traffic volumes and roadway data information
  • Determining two-hour AM and PM peak period windows for travel time runs
  • Performing travel run studies to evaluate impact of proposed bus stop changes on traffic flow during both AM and PM peaks during a typical weekday (Tuesday through Wednesday)
    • Travel run data included signalized intersections, bus stops, distance between each node, stop time due to bus stop only, stop time due to signalized intersection only, stop time at signalized intersection due to bus stop, stop time before bus stop due to queueing at signalized intersections, and average speed.
