SH 249 High-Capacity Transit Service Feasibility Study
Houston, Texas
Ardurra performed a feasibility study to add a diamond lane along SH 249 between the Tomball Tollway and IH-45. Ardurra provided recommendations related to:
- Connecting the proposed diamond lanes to the section of SH 249 south of BW 8
- Connectivity concepts between existing Park and Rides along the corridor
- Connecting existing services and facilities to the IH-45 managed lanes proposed by TxDOT as part of its North Highway project
- Evaluating potential sites for a future park and pool facility just south of the City of Tomball in the vicinity of SH 99.
The goal of the study was to ultimately improve transit travel times and connectivity between facilities in the SH 249 corridor.
Some activities related to the study included:
- Development of conceptual layouts
- High level evaluations to identify the best solutions by considering options for both short-term and long-term conditions. Potential study options included extending the center diamond lane, curb-side diamond lane and elevated center running bus lane
- High level, probable cost estimates for each conceptual layout
- High level connectivity analysis
- Evaluation of potential vacant lot locations for a future park and pool facility in the vicinity of SH 99
- Analysis of impacts to travel time, right-of-way, environmental, existing and future services at a high level based on the recently completed SH 249 Access Management Study results
