Southwest Oregon Regional Airport GA Aprons Reconstruction and Expansion

North Bend,OR

Southwest Oregon Regional Airport (OTH) is located in North Bend, Oregon at the mouth of Coos Bay. This regional airport is a towered airport and receives daily commercial service flights to and from San Francisco with seasonal flights to Denver. OTH receives a large amount of corporate and business class jet traffic in addition to small general aviation traffic. Bandon Dunes golf resort is located approximately 35 miles south of OTH and this resort is a primary driver for the jet and piston traffic demands throughout the year. As a result of the unique demand that OTH receives, ramp space is a major factor in meeting the needs of the flying community.

Our team worked with the Coos County Airport District on a project to reconstruct and expand aprons used for general aviation traffic. The design is for a multi-phase approach that will expand the available apron space by approximately 155,000 square feet and reconstruct about a third of the existing ramp. The Master Design covers three phases that includes demolition and clearing of several buildings, realigning a local road, and reconstructing concrete panels that are over 70 years old. Both the expansion and the reconstruction areas will be concrete ramps that maximize parking space for itinerant aircraft and minimize disruptions to on-going operations at the airport.

The Phase 1 design was accomplished in two months and allowed the airfield to remain open throughout construction. The project includes utility coordination and relocation for electrical, gravity and pressurized sanitary sewer, storm sewer, water, and natural gas. The new concrete apron will support aircraft up to 100,000 pounds.
